An Awesome Idea

Last night, I was honored to be a part of my friend Marcy's Bridesmaid Dinner at her mom's house. This was a chance for us to all get together and have some G-rated fun the night before the bachelorette party. The party was hosted by Marcy's mom, who created an amazing tablescape to match the light blue color of the wedding. On each of our chairs was a large Land's End open-top canvas tote with our names embroidered on them.
This was our bridesmaid gift. A very cute idea! Preppy or not, this bag is a classic, and I am sucker for anything personalized. I still love my Lillian Vernon pink overnight bag circa 1990. These are surprisingly less expensive than I thought and a truly timeless gift. Check out all the totes adorable totes options here.

Thanks Marcy!

This Looks Ridonculous

Holy schnikees. Another amazing looking meal I am thrilled to find via Tastespotting.
This one, for Toasted Mushroom Macaroni, links to NoteAfter12, a blog that based on the following paragraph, we are sure to love.

Pasta! Pasta! Pasta! It's what I could eat every day from now until the day I die if my skinny jeans and my guilty conscience would allow me to. I love it plain with butter, pepper and parmesan. I love it with a beefy bolognese, I love it with sundried tomatoes, I love it with pesto. I love it hot. I love it cold. I am pretty sure I was Italian in a former life, and if not i'll definitely be pushing for it in the next life.

It's cold outside! This would sure warm up some insides.
Bon Appetit!

Nice Olympics Commercials

I have to say, I am more into the Olympics commercials than the Super Bowl. Sure, they tug at the heartstrings, but doesn't over 50% of the NBC fluff, too? Nice casting and momlove from Walmart and P&G. To be celebrated.

Cheers!

A SoapBox Regarding Magazines

As I have Olympic Fever, I have been soaking up all of the media regarding Evan vs. Johnny and am overall excited that people seem to care about skating and selfishly, hoping that that interest as well as gymnastics being the #1 watched Summer Olympics sport will one day lead to my dream TV channel of nothing but skatenastics. Anyhoo, I was pleased to read this article in Details which pre-dates the Olympics but is still a well-written piece about the difference between Evan Lysacek and Johnny Weir. This leads me to a little blurb about while I am so proud that women have come so far in the feminist movement, why can't their magazines seem to reach the same level? I just passed by an InTouch with a photo of Ashlee Simpson on the cover with the story: "Ashlee Shocker: Her Nose Grew Back!" WTF?

We are given the gift at the office here of extra magazines that people give away after reviewing the ads we place in them. I soak up magazines like Johnny soaks up anything coming close to Bedazzled. I'll read anything. I'll forget most. Except usually what I read in Esquire, Details, and GQ. While I obviously skim the men's fragrance pullouts and articles on the new trends in tie widths, the interviews and articles are just, well, so much better. I close the magazine smarter, better educated, satisfied.

Jane Magazine (RIP) knew what it was doing. Even Blueprint and Domino. Hell, I even read Teen Vogue to try and find some stuff. Am I missing the mark? I pick up trash and women's magazines like Cosmo when I am getting a pedicure, since let's face it, the supply of GQ at the salons doesn't quite add up, but I laugh at how pointless and lame they are (really? Another Mind-blowing Move To Try On Him?) I read magazines for 14-year-olds and 54-year-olds. Somehow it just all seems to be the same. This post is way too negative for a blog that's all about awesomeness and positivity. But, I ask you all, is there anything out there targeted to women that is full of as much awesomeness as the men get? Please advise.

Awesome Way To Eat More Veggies

While everyone loves an Edible Arrangement, here's another way to D-I-Y edible bouquet, this time with veggies. Because dipping shit in ranch is even better than chocolate.

A Pint-Sized Dose of Awesome

Savannah, a 5-year-old in Indiana, calls 911 and saves her dad's life. This is worth a listen. And obviously this will be followed by a post or seven about a cat saving someone else's life.

Enjoy!

A Double-Axel of Awesome!

All of this Olympic fever put a real urge in me to go ice skating! Today I headed to Stonebriar Mall up in Frisco for a change to check out their rink. I skated while AAAD Reader Allison shopped. I had about 45 minutes left of Free Skate time when we got there and I definitely enjoyed every minute. The whole thing was like playing Frogger on ice, trying not to blast into a 6-year-old, and of course at one time I was disappointed to not see my parents in the crowd to wave (will that always be a part of ice skating? YES!) but it felt so good to get back on the ice. I fell ZERO times. I couldn't help but think of the amazing Ice Capades Chalet at Prestonwood Mall. Best times of 1989. I am thinking of taking lessons. Look out, Tanith!

After skating and a stroll around the mall, Allison and I needed refuel. I had an AWESOME cherry slush at Sonic. And it was Happy Hour, and therefore only 50 cents. It was the closest thing to a Zemi I could find.

Just look how happy these cats are with their happy hour specials. Gotta love it.

Throwback Sundays. CLASSIC!
See you on the ice,
Pia The Pig
