Hello, Friends, and Happy 2012! I'm back with a nice little post I am stealing from someone's Tumblr. Sorry I'm not sorry I don't know where it came from. I don't get Tumblr.

“To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I’ve ever written.
My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Change the way you think.
4. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and family will. Stay in touch.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.
8. Release your children when they become adults, its their life now.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.
12. It’s OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn’t be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye
16. Take a deep breath It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.
18. Whatever doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It’s never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don’t take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don’t save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22 Just because you believe you are right, doesn’t mean you are. Keep an open mind.
23. Be eccentric now. Don’t wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words ‘In five years, will this matter?’
27. Always choose a good life.

I love a good aquas frescas, but they are hard to find and pretty pricey. So, when I found this Dole Sensations Watermelon Juice, I was hoping it might be an easy access alternative.

Well, friends, I LOVE THIS JUICE. So good. Not too watery. Watermelon year round, without the seeds or the awkward, "I'm holding a watermelon, OMG, is this what it will feel like to be preggo" march from the grocery store to the car to the heave of watermelon onto the kitchen counter. Trust me, this shiz is great.

I have emerged, even though I am still in my Muppet coma. (Obviously that movie was AWESOME and thanks to Mr. Awesome for suggesting a midnight showing as a fantastic date.) I have missed blogging and decided to update this and my other blog each morning along with my coffee and Good Morning America.

Hey friends! Today is November first, and my new niece is ready to make her debut any moment now. So excited!

Last night was a lovely fall night. I made this GREAT Beef Pot Roast slow cooker recipe (you should totes make this) and the pumpkin chocolate chip cake I blogged about yesterday was easy and delicious, too. Mr. Awesome and I made the cake together and while it was cooking, enjoyed a photo shoot with Bert and his Halloween costumes. Yes that is plural. They are on Facebook in case you missed them.

Finally Fall

Thank GOD I am not sweating any more and Fall is officially here! I know this not even from the weather report, but from the pumpkin coffee, bagels, muffins and scones invading my life and stomach area. Bring it.

My pumpkin spice creamer filled my mug this morning and I could not have kicked off the work week any happier. I love all the holiday flavors!

This weekend I made my favorite pumpkin dip
after picking up a tin of THE best ginger snaps only at World Market. This is an amazing fall treat and easy to bring to a party. Definitely make this! It's even better after it's been in the fridge for an hour. You will love it!

Hello! Miss me? I've been on a blog break but here we are again.

I'm kicking off my return with a great recipe that would go just perfectly with fall TV. This Lemon Pasta with Roasted Shrimp is so easy and the flavors were amazing. I added grape tomatoes and roasted asparagus for more flavor and color. Here's my bad phone pic.

I am so ridiculously excited for ANTM All Stars tonight that not much sounds better than eating this on the couch and watching these fan favorites get makeovers.

New Flats

I am very loyal to my shoes. Meaning I wear them until they are worn to the sole and falling apart. When I looked online yesterday to replace my beloved Urban patent red leather flats, I was disappointed to see they were no longer available. Looking for an inexpensive replacement (I seem to be quite hard on such beloved shoes), I was thrilled to find these perfectly suitable replacements for just $14.99 at Target. They fit just fine and come in the red I wanted, plus pink, purple, black, and taupe (purchased).

This bow flat is super cute, too, and even though summer is winding down (please wind down quicker), a yellow flat will help you keep a summer swing to your step.

If you haven't watched/hated/yet loved Bravo's Most Eligible Dallas, I suggest you tune in tonight. It's not like you actually need to have seen the first two episodes because I'll sum them up for you right now. It might be editing, but these fools are fake, vile, and the worst stereotype Dallas has to offer. There are a million more eligible and normal and down to earth people in Dallas, but alas, perhaps not as vomit-inducing as Bravo likes to cast. That being said, as I told Mr. Awesome, I'm not actually rooting for any of these people (except the pets that Tara saves), but I will definitely watch every episode. Hahahaha as if I watch TV to be smarter (see: Toddlers and Tiaras and new fave: Dance Moms.)

Anyway, I thought this recap of the last episode was worth enough to be today's awesome. My friends Rachel and Greg sent me this gem. My favorite part: "Also, the spelling of Brittnye’s name is stupid." <-- Truth.

I'll be tuning in tonight with some of my friends who are actually quite eligible in Dallas.

I am super into Pinterest. I have found so many awesome things on there. You must get on it if you're not! This easy tutorial for colorful garland is nothing super new but the idea of using paint swatches (free!!) is brilliantly colorful and creative. I am a big fan of the Fiskars brand punches and think a little leaf garland might just help me kickstart the house into fall mode.

I can barely contain myself with excitement for the new Muppet movie premiering in November. To whet our appetites, the new Muppet Green Album is the Muppet classics performed by indie bands. The video for OK Go'd redo of The Muppet Show Theme debuted yesterday and it's awesome. Love the Statler and Waldolf interruption...I think you'll see why.

Thursday I am headed to St. Paul for the Visa Championships and I am all sorts of fired up. The drama. The pressure. The glitter.

While this is all so American, it's pretty universal in the sport of gymnastics. This new UK documentary, "Gymnast" highlights all the mental and physical toughness needed to succeed in the sport. It's legit, and definitely worth watching, psycho gym fan or not.

Dazzling Gemma

I got to take a trip to Austin last week to visit Katie and Mick and meet their adorable, perfect daughter, Gemma. She is just that, a dazzling gem, with the sweetest, most precious face. Katie was a pregnancy goddess, looking amazing the entire time, and rounding out the title with a post-preggo slamming body and motherly glow. Looking good, girls!

The best part about meeting the little GAL (her initials...awesome) was having another lady friend around us as we chatted, gossiped, and watched intellectual TV shows like Toddlers and Tiaras, Pretty Wild, and Dance Moms. Our duo became a trio.

Can't wait to dance and make all sorts of arts and crafts with my new little bestie.

One of my favorite AAAD Readers, Brad, shared his thoughts on hummus in response to this post. Must share with you all, as these sound like vegan insider awesome finds:

"I see that you like Sabra. I would like to expand your horizons. Trust me. I am a vegan. Hummus is my entertainment and religion.

These guys make a hummus called Grandma’s Hummus. I think I’ve seen it at Whole Foods. Maybe Central Market. I need to verify this before sending you off in search. They’re based in Austin, and it’s the best “straight up” version I’ve had. Their babaganoush is awesome too. (Blogger's note: special points for describing their hummus as "humus.")

This is so good if you like cilantro. I need to try their other flavors, but this one gets me every time.

The Spicy Three Pepper is my everyday go to. It’s not spicy for normal people from Texas (nothing that’s labeled “spicy” ever is). It has bell pepper in it, so if you have a friend who is allergic to bell peppers (read: Andria), then you will want to inform her before she eats half of the bowl with you.

As for awesome restaurant hummus, if you’ve never been to Fadi’s, you’re doing yourself a disservice.

Boycrush.

My boycrush is obviiiiiiiously Mr. Awesome, who amongst other things, has hair to die for, such pretty teeth "he can be in a toothpaste commercial," and doesn't run away screaming when he sees my Jewfro. But most excitingly, he can cook! He made some ridic eggs benedict over the weekend. With pork. On an English muffin. With potatoes. All while I sat on the couch watching Toddlers and Tiaras, rocking such Jewfro. Hello keeper.

Sunday, he also made a great dinner that I had to share with y'all. We were in the mood for Greek food and decided to make some ourselves. We made this chicken shawarma recipe which was fabulous. The chicken had great flavor to it (almost Indian with the curry powder...but not spicy at all) and the sauce was restaurant-worthy. I couldn't find tahini at Target for the sauce, so Mr. A improvised by adding some chopped up cucumbers and a surprising dash of cinnamon (who knew!?) to make the sauce a little less tart.

We paired it with pita (quartered and toasted in the oven for about 10 minutes on 350) and my favorite hummus (eating this like it's going out of style),

and a super fresh cucumber, tomato, and dill salad. The grape tomatoes were perfection and the dill was a great compliment to the sauce. This photo is from the Everything Food blog but looked like ours if you add some dill.

This meal was easy, healthy, and super flavorful. A great end to a weekend of awesome eats. Definitely try that chicken recipe. It's great!

Girlcrush.

I stumbled upon the Girlcrush site and it's super rad. My latest girlcrush, and the same for most of my friends, is Emma Stone. Of course, Katy Perry has had the top seat for awhile. The cats! The glitter! The rainbow hair!

Anyway, Girlcrush is a nicely-designed site (I love the logo) that spotlights an awesome chick at a time. Creator Wendy Withers on the inspiration for the site:
"the idea of girl crush came about when i was pregnant with my first son. i kept thinking about what would become of my career after having babies. i found myself constantly looking to other women for inspiration… and so, the idea was born. it wasn’t until after my second baby when i finally had the energy and focus to get to work on GC. the title, Girl Crush, refers to women who i admire and respect."

I found the site, which at the time, featured The Ice Cream Maker, while searching for something about ice cream (what's new) and have been going back ever since. Interesting interviews and gorgeous photos = perfect. The latest feature, on The Radio City Rockette, is so inspiring. I've wanted to be a Rockette for a long time. Too bad I can't dance...well at least not like that...

Thank Gawd this season of The Bachelorette is over. To celebrate Ashley's Jew snag, I had the girls over for dinner. Earlier in the day, I stopped into Williams-Sonoma to pick up this hamburger seasoning that I had the joy of being introduced to at AAAD Reader John's pool party.

John cooked up some of the best burgers I've ever had. His secret: (sorry for spoiling, John!) the amazing hamburger seasoning from W-S. So juicy. So meaty. So awesome.

I also picked up this Buttermilk Ranch rub which was on sale for just $2.99 and rubbed this goodness all over some chicken.

Added a pinch of poultry seasoning and those tenders cooked up beautifully. Go get you some rub. You won't be sorry.

I Got Some New Shoes On

While I am not preppy enough to rock the Sperrys that are the prepster version of the agency Converse, I think I've found a lovely shiny compromise to slip ons. My Metallic Leatherette (the girlier version of "pleather") Loafers from Forever 21.

These run a bit small but I had to squeeze my feet into them. Under $25 and super versatile, they are now my casual silver shoe, (they come in gold, too!) only taking second place to my $39.99 Marshalls find of these sparkly Enzo flats I can't get enough of either.

Lots of cute flats for ridic prices at Forever 21 here.

What silver shoes are you rocking? I'll wear anything these days to take the attention away from my sweaty self.

I have two very close friends who had babies in the last two weeks, (yay, Katie and Anne!) and learned of two other very close friends' pregnancies in the last week (shh!), and love that many of you dear readers are mommas trying to balance it all. One of my favorite bloggers and working mom herself, Joanna from A Cup of Jo, put together a lovely series of working mom bloggers discussing their challenge of finding BALANCE.

I had a great talk with my mom last night about balance. It's something I completely lost in the last year and have finally found a bit more lately. But it's so interesting to me to think that whether you are 16 or 30 or 45 or 65, it's something we all (maybe women moreso? I think that's fair) are constantly seeking.

Part One of Pop It Like It's Hot

It's hot. 17 days now over 100 here in the Big D. So, while my year-round choice for food is truly anything on a stick, in the summatime, it better be frozen on the other end. Since Mr. Awesome and I are on a mission to eat healthier, I picked up these Healthy Bunch pops, including the 10 calorie Creamsicles, which I loved.

There are a million Popsicle brand pops and I've been hearing great things about the Jolly Rancher pops, which will be next on the list. Over the next few days, I will feature some great recipes for DIY pops, but in the meantime, check out Old Sweet Song Amy's post on pops.

Oh, and if you love the taste of Creamsicles and "don't DO sugar free," how adorbs are these Creamsicle Sandwich Cookies I spotted over on a new blog find, Baked Perfection?!

Even though I don't even like the consistency, anything with sprinkles on top, I can dig.

Awesome Summer Treat

I'm putting together what I must say is a beautiful post about popsicles, but in the meantime, had to share in my delight that AAAD Reader Sara was oh-so right when she said that I must try the new Skinny Cow ice cream bars.

I went for the caramel truffle kind at the grocery store tonight and OMG these are great! I've been eating my weight in fruit-flavored fro-yo but these are definitely hitting the chocolate spot and still make them a swimsuit-season worthy treat. Enjoy!

The Soundtrack of Since We Last Spoke

As mentioned, I've taken an obvious blog break. Well, I'm back again and decided to make time each morning alongside my coffee and granola to update the blog. You see, my days have changed a bit since we last spoke. On the walk I mentioned in the last post, I turned on my ipod on shuffle (for the first time in awhile...) and this post ended up sort of writing itself. The first six songs summed up quite well what's been going on....but I will elaborate a little bit.

I couldn't stay at my day job any longer. I was worn out, uninspired, bored yet busy, and beat down. So...

I left. Four weeks ago. Took a deep breath and quit. I planned this for awhile, emotionally and financially. That helped, but it's still a leap. And now I am free.

Before I quit my job, I'd been working 8:30-6ish at my day job, and coming home and working from about 7-2am on my business. I worked on my business before work, on my lunch hour, nights and weekends. I love it. But it was lonely sometimes. Just me and the computer. I was in a work trance. It felt fine until I realized my computer wasn't able to hug me back.

So I quit to focus on my business, Stamped Paper Company. I've been creating custom invitations for years, and now it's bloomed enough for me to stay happy and busy and more importantly, fulfilled! It's just me and I got the nerve to finally leave the job that held my schedule too tight. I listened to this song a lot over the past year and half. It's awesome.

And now...I'm happy. I waited so super patiently long for the day I could go out on my own. I pushed. Pushed. Pushed. Kept my eye on the prize. Thought of the dedication of Nastia and my favorite gymnasts when I had to. Drank large coffees when I had to. Said "no thanks" to happy hours and parties and distractions and just prayed and prayed I could find the finish line. And now I have. And I am free. But I am not walking around alone...

Because lucky for me, Mr. Awesome has appeared in my life. Yes, I waited a long time to quit my job to focus on Stamped, but I've waited eight times as long for the right Partner In Crime to come along into my arms. Found him. He's sweet like candy and sour enough to give him an edge. We're a great match and having the best time. Finally. I'm having fun and importantly, found a balance. I waited and asked for one dream and I got two. Now I am walking in the sunshine and smiling.

Couldn't have done it without family and friends, especially Katie, Gina, Kellyn, Lynn, Melissa, and Paige. And this blog and this necklace.

This brings us current. Now bring on the awesome.

A New Chapter

It's been awhile since I've had a recipe up on the bloggity blog (for a few months there, my dinner's been fro-yo and pretzels. don't hate, it's awesome.) so I am pleased to share a great recipe that I whipped up for my girls on Monday night as we watch the train wreck that is The Bachelorette.

I decided to flip to a page in the newest Everyday with Rachael Ray and found this Lemon-Scented Carbonara that was easy and super flavorful. The sauce tastes so creamy and it's simply from tempered eggs. As RR would say (and most likely annoy all of you), "Yum-O!"

As you may have read, I quit my day job to go...well, pursue my dreams! I am off on a new adventure and ready for all of the everything that comes along with it. I have had shed a few tears over the last few days as I have been overcome with joy that this finish line which is also a start line is finally here. I feel so incredibly happy to live in a time where women can do something like this: go for it, take a risk, act "brave like man." We need more of it.

Mom is Awesome!

This weekend we celebrated my birthday and Mother's Day with the family. Dad's bday was Friday but since everyone gets their own celebration, we will have dinner for him next weekend. I was just thinking about this post I wanted to write to mom as I was putting away some of the super thoughtful birthday gifts she found me. So without further adieu, here on 5/8, are 58 reasons my mom rocks.

1. My mom is so thoughtful. She always thinks about not just us but others and little things to help/buy/save for us all of the time.
2. Woman is a stellar garage saler. She knows what she is doing.
3. Hilarious. We laugh. All the time.
4. She's trendy.
5. The woman keeps it real. No pretense. No BS. All real.
6. She will talk to anyone about how to help their child. Case in point: I asked if she could help a co-worker on his private school search. Cut to one hour later as they hang up the phone.
7. She is an awesome grandmother.
8. She has always done little things that make things special. We always woke up to a birthday banner and balloons hanging up in the kitchen. When we got to her house today, the banner was up to celebrate my dad's birthday. He's over 70.
9. She will go out of her way to make sure there is a constant donut and cookie supply in the house, even if that means an emergency trip in her bathrobe.
10. She's experimental in the kitchen and has fun trying new recipes I give her.
11. THE WOMAN HAS NO BODY HAIR. Naturally. Incredible. "I haven't shaved my legs in thirty years."
12. She loves a project and sees it through. Tell her you need _____. She goes to 8 stores to find it. And uses a coupon for you.
13. My brother and I are over thirty and she will still do our laundry.
14. She always puts together a nice meal for us even when she's exhausted.
15. Woman could win a gold medal in phone talking.
16. She's had friends for years and years and years. Says a lot.
17. Great taste.
18. Has taught herself how to type and use the computer. That's not easy.
19. She has incredible skin and basically zero skin care regime.
20. AMAZING HULA HOOPER. She won many a Bar/Bat Mitzvah contest. Including mine.
21. She has an awesome laugh and loses it laughing quite often to the point of peeing her pants. Just a tinkle. It's endearing.
22. She goes through life with a sense of humor and not taking herself too seriously.
23. But can have a serious conversation and give seriously great advice.
24. She will always keep the door open for a neighbor. They see her as family. It's lovely.
25. Taught me to multitask with her ability to iron and gossip for three hours every Sunday morning.
26. She's great at Rummy-Q
27. And mah-jong.
28. And making matzo balls.
29. And sweet and sour meatballs.
30. She's predictable. In a good way.
31. Gives an amazing amount of love to cats, including our first family cat, Sully, and their current cat, Bentley.
32. She's a great sister and aunt, too.
33. The woman has never been drunk in her entire life. Impressive.
34. Eats blueberries over chocolate. Also impressive.
35. Always supports my dad's hobbies by being the passenger at many a car show.
36. She was a dancer growing up. Love a good dancer.
37. Great, avid reader. She reads disgusting murder mysteries yet sleeps like a baby.
38. Award-winning napper. For real.
39. She has helped me move 67623954 times and is still talking to me.
40. She absolutely puts everyone ahead of herself.
41. She's always encouraged us to be our own people and "fly."
42. She's brave.
43. And interested in constantly learning.
44. She took square-dancing lessons at the Senior Center and rocked it.
45. She loves gymnastics and skating and is a great watching partner.
46. She is so encouraging and believes in people.
47. She, like my dad, has great perseverance in finding her glasses and also her keys. And purse.
48. Has taught us how to save a lot of money by using coupons.
49. She is spunky.
50. And honest.
51. And warm.
52. And generous.
53. And patient. (I could never teach on my feet all day.)
54. She is so outgoing. We always say she can talk to a wall.
55. And has an uncanny ability of making strangers open up to her. See numbers 50-54.
56. She is a great leader. And partner.
57. She is a mother to all. Every good thing a mother is, she is to everyone she knows and even strangers.

This is the big weekend to celebrate our moms but today is my dad's birthday and here are 56 reasons he is awesome, on his birthday, today 5/6.

1. He is tall and handsome.
2. Rocks a mean beard (and stache).
3. Yet has not one mean bone in his body.
4. Work ethic any boss would dream of.
5. Amazing boss.
6. Instilled a "never go to bed hungry" rule in our house.
7. Which led to eating many a "Goodnight Treat" together: cookies, donuts, brownies.
8. SUPER appreciative of every meal my mom makes him whether that's doing nothing more than opening and microwaving a can of soup.
9. Rocks dress socks with white t-shirts like nobody's business.
10. Keeps the entire pajama industry alive and kicking.
11. Taught us you are only as old as you feel.
12. Taught us the importance of giving in to your sweet tooth.
13. And integrity.
14. And honesty.
15. And selflessness.

34. Spent so much of our childhood at the park with us.

39. Had his morning routine down to a science.
40. Took me for my first banana split.

Remember when I posted about this dress? I decided it would be my birthday dress. Well, when the weather on my birthday didn't top 45 degrees, I decided to turn a summer sundress into a basecoat for a layered look. I worked on some projects pretty late last night so when I finally decided to get in bed and de-stress by watching tv, I was thrilled to find something new since I tend to watch the same Bravo shows over and over and over. I found a new channel in my lineup, or at least one I haven't stopped on before, "Planet Green," and stumbled on a new show, Dresscue Me, which follows "the fashion world's best-kept secret-Shareen Mitchell, beloved by fashionistas and recessionistas alike for her unique, affordable approach to vintage clothing.

A self-taught designer with retail outlets on both coasts, Mitchell is renowned for her ability to give new life to dowdy old duds by turning them into chic, fashion-forward frocks. To create these one-of-a- kind pieces, Mitchell welcomes her exclusively female clients into her hip boutiques in both downtown Los Angeles and New York's Chelsea district, to hear their stories and make them over in a distinctly Shareen Vintage style that helps them look and feel their best."

The episode I caught featured SYTYCD's Cat Deeley shopping for vintage pieces, and Shareen and team creating a line for Madewell. Even better, her pieces are insanely affordable and provide a look at how to take pieces from decades past and make them surprisingly current. I am definitely tuning in and welcome a fresh fashion show.
